The UPHMC Department of Radiation Oncology:
Intensifying the Battle Against Cancer

A powerful ally in battling cancer, Radiotherapy is a highly specialized treatment that uses high-energy rays to stop the growth of malignant cells. Used alone, or in combination with other treatments, radiotherapy can greatly help improve a cancer patient’s quality of life.

The University of Perpetual Help Medical Centers have now made world-class Radiotherapy treatments accessible to cancer patients in South Metro Manila and the rest of the metropolis. Headed by chairman and CEO Dr. Antonio L. Tamayo, our medical centers have intensified their arsenal of cancer-fighting resources with the acquisition of two identical, brand new and fully integrated Radiotherapy systems. Each hospital is now completely equipped with its own state-of-the-art radiotherapy facilities and a dedicated radiation oncology team committed to providing cancer patients with affordable treatments that are very patient-friendly and safe.

Our Department of Radiation Oncology’s core technology features the Varian Clinac 2100 C, the world’s most widely preferred multi-energy medical Linear Accelerator. Highly reliable and offering a diverse array of energy options for treating patients, it is equipped with a Millennium multi-leaf collimator which, when digitally integrated with the accelerator, the Varian Eclipse Treatment Planning System, and interfaced with our CT Scan Simulator System, makes for 100% 3-dimensional accuracy and precision. Completing our integrated department are the Low-Dose-Rate Brachytherapy System for gynecological and ENT malignancies, the Varian Acuity Fluoroscopy and X-ray System, and the Huestics Block Making System for the simplest to the most complex shapes a treatment plan requires.

Armed with a 30-year tradition of healthcare excellence, the University of Perpetual Help Medical Centers are all geared up for a battle half won. With passionate service and compassionate care, our dedicated Radiation Oncology team, led by department chairman Robert P. Dulay, M.D., is now even more empowered to give every cancer patient a fighting chance.
